How to Install Genuine Toyota 86 LED Fog Lights

You’ll be amazed how easy it is to install the factory Toyota 86 LED fog lights. To get started, pop out the 3 plastic clips in the wheel opening to gain access to the back side of the front bumper cover. To create more room to work, go ahead and turn your steering wheel towards the opposite side you’re working. This gets the wheel and tire out of the way.

With the clips out, push the fender liner back out of the way and reach in behind the front cover. You will be able to feel the tabs that hold the bumper molding in place. Release the tabs and the molding will pop off. Inside, you will notice the connector held up with the pink tape. We will be using that connector shortly.

With the bumper molding out of the way, now we’re ready to install the fog light assembly. Before we can do that however, you will need to place the square bracket around the LED housing and fasten it with the included 3 screws. The LED housings are the same so it don’t matter which one goes with either square bracket, but keep in mind the brackets themselves are labeled “L” for left ( drivers side ) and “R” for right ( passenger side ).

Included with the fog light kit will be six bolts and six lock nuts, three for each side. Take your LED housing with square mounting bracket and fit it to the car from behind the bumper cover, going through the fender liner. Use the three bolts and lock nuts to fasten the mounting bracket in place. Remember “L” for drivers side and “R” for passenger side.

Looking in through the fender liner, carefully cut the pink tape holding the wiring connector we need. Go ahead and plug the connector into the back of the LED housing. One done, now just repeat the same process to install the fog light to the other side. Then the only thing left on the outside of the car is to take the new moldings included in the fog light kit and snap them into place on the bumper cover.

With both LED housings installed and wiring connectors plugged in, we can install the power switch to turn the lights on and off. The fog light kit for the Toyota 86 will include a new dash bezel with an additional cut out for the fog light switch. Using a trim removal tool, or flat head screw driver, carefully get behind the bezel and pop it out.

You will need to remove and reuse the dimmer switch, trunk switch, and blank filler plug from the original bezel and snap them, as well as the new fog light switch, into the new bezel included with the fog light kit.

Before installing the new bezel with the switches, we need to get the wiring connector thats tucked up under the dash. Easiest way to find it, is to remove the lower dash panel. To remove it, start by taking off the side panel. Towards the bottom you’ll notice a phillips screw. Remove it. Next, below the steering wheel (slightly to the right) you’ll find a second screw. Remove that one too. Now the lower dash panel will pop off.

Lower dash panel out of the way, now you can find the wiring connector we need to plug into the fog light switch we are adding. Locate the white wire / grey connector with blue tape. Cut the tape, and pull the wire out towards the other connectors you unplugged earlier to take the original bezel off.

OK, we’re getting close. the connector you just pulled forward won’t connect directly to the fog lamp switch. First you will need to clip in the short jumper harness that came in the LED fog light kit. You will also find a small foam sticker and a zip tie included in the kit, those will go around the connection between the dash harness and jumper you just put together.

You can now reinstall the lower dash panel, feeding the three needed connectors out of the bezel opening. Next step, plug the connectors into the switches and snap that new bezel in place.

Thats it! Your Toyota 86 LED fog lights are installed. That wasn’t too hard, right?

Out of the box, the fog lights should be pointing the right direction, but it doesn’t hurt to double check. To do that, simply park your Toyota 86 on a flat, level surface facing a garage door or wall. Ideally about 15 to 20 feet away. You are looking to make sure the most intense section of the light is centered in the beam and that its level across both sides. If any adjustment is necessary, you can access the adjustment screw on the back of the LED housing from inside the wheel opening liner.
